Dedication celebration for new torah
I actually stumbled across the activity after a mostly unsuccessful photo shoot on the streets of this community. I met the grandson of the man who donated the torah to the synagogue in memory of his family. He explained some of the details to me. Since it was copied by hand in Hebrew calligraphy, it took a year to complete.
In addition, I am also interested in form and light in a more abstract sense.

entry description
The Hasidic community has remained completely separate from the world around it. These photographs were shot during a procession of only men celebrating the dedication of a new torah (the most holy scripture) in the form of a scroll written by hand. Several of the participants were honored by carrying the torah which was to be installed in the synagogue at the end of the blocks long procession.I actually stumbled across the activity after a mostly unsuccessful photo shoot on the streets of this community. about the photographer
I've been involved with photography for many year but have just recently started showing my work. My primary interest has always been people. None of my people photographs are set up, they are all spontaneous, most people I have only seen once and will never see again. In addition, I am also interested in form and light in a more abstract sense.
