On the way to a local market in Ghana, I discovered this painted wall that immediately captivated me. But it wasn't until a few days later that I went back to the site to take photos. As I wanted to attract as little attention as possible, I first observed from afar what the women were carrying on their heads. Only when I saw a good scene coming would I approach the wall briefly and take a few pictures. The photo shown here was one of them.about the photographer
Regula Tschumi lives in Switzerland but spends since 2002 every year several months in Ghana. She has a PhD in social anthropology, and she works as a freelance cultural mediator and photographer. She started to photograph while doing her anthropological fieldwork in Ghana.Her documentary photographs of the Ghanaian figurative coffins and palanquins have been published in numerous books and newspapers, and they were shown in many exhibitions.
