entry description
Situated on Maligne Lake, the second largest glacier-fed lake in the world, Spirit Island is the epitome of the Canadian Rockies. I became inspired to capture my own vision of the classic scene on film after sea kayaking nearly 18 km to reach the Island. The radiant alpenglow reflections and tranquil moon further heighten the balance and mood of this unforgettable view.about the photographer
Ron Smid discovered his passion for landscape photography during solo canoe excursions to the rugged Canadian Shield of Northern Ontario. At the age of 26, he set out on what was to be the first of many photographic expeditions across Canada with the goal of capturing quintessential imagery on traditional colour transparency film. He is a purist and uses no post digital production and is one of the few photographers dedicated to working exclusively with the now discontinued 1963 analog Cibachrome colour process in collaboration with master printer, Michael Wilder.Ron Smid’s work is held in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide.
