The title is borrowed from the ancient Japanese technique of repairing porcelain vessels accentuating the cracks with gold instead of concealing them.
For the photographs Kintsugi IV and V, gold foil is applied by hand at the end of the printing process.
"Kintsugi" is part of a wider ongoing project on rebirth called "Rinascimenti Privati", that could be translated as "Private Renaissances". In Italian Rinascimento means both "rebirth" and the Renaissance, an era that witnessed the flourishing of the arts and intellectual activities after the Middle Age.
My work revolves around the construction of female identity in history and the role of women in society, questioning how memory, power, and representation shape our understanding of the feminine. Using photography and mixed media, I intervene on images through analog processes such as tearing, stitching, and painting—meditative acts of transformation that help me reclaim and reframe the narrative around women's lives and identity.
In parallel, I experiment with camera-less photography on fabric, using cyanotype and natural elements like the sun, sand, and salt water to create works that exist in dialogue with time and the environment.
