The Odyssey of Refugees
Each of the unseaworthy boats and dinghies carries approximately 60 migrants who pay around 1000 dollars to the smuggler in Turkey risking their lives in a desperate bid to reach Europe. That means that each boat "costs" 60,000 dollars -in the black market. Some mornings the waves ‘bring’ lifeless bodies of people at the Greek coast. In 2015, 1,014,146 refugees arrived in Europe crossing Mediterranean Sea. Approximately 800,000 of them entered Europe via Greece. 3,771 are dead and missing persons, according to UNHCR.
48% is from Syrian Arab Republic, 21 % from Afghanistan and 9% from Iraq.
She works as a freelance photojournalist and is represented by Polaris Images in NY.
She is instructor in Οrama school of Photography, voluntarily to women inmates in the Greek prisons and she leads workshops of Photojournalism in Greece and in Oman.

An oenology degree holder, after having attended Konstantinos Manos and Ed Kashi’ s workshops and 24 years specializing in photojournalism in Asian and African territories, in Japan, Australia, China and New Zealnd, Kouri has been exhibited internationally from galleries, to schools, slums, bazaars, hotels. She publishes photographic articles in Take Part, BBC, LFI, Journal du Dimanche, National Geographic, Newsweek, Vice, Days Japan, Der Spiegel, NZZ, K, Vimagazino, Dagens Nyheter among others.She works as a freelance photojournalist and is represented by Polaris Images in NY.
